LAS VEGAS and BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – January 5, 2011 — From the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), NETGEAR®, in conjunction with Verizon Wireless, today announced the MBR1000 Mobile Broadband Router, which is specifically designed to take advantage of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network. .

Performance delivered by the Verizon Wireless 4G network, combined with the NETGEAR MBR1000, helps enable powerful new business applications and expands broadband access to home and business customers that are either on the move or outside thewired broadband territory.

The MBR1000 supports the expected wireless data speeds of 5-12 megabits per second (Mbps) downstream and 2-5 Mbps upstream on the Verizon Wireless LTE network. The device is designed to support theoretical LTE speeds of up to 100 Mbps downstream by 50 Mbps upstream. The MBR1000 delivers a full customer-side LAN with four Fast Ethernet ports and 802.11n Wi-Fi at up to 270 Mbps and features redundant WAN network availability with a separate Fast Ethernet WAN uplink port. The MBR1000 Dual WAN feature gives customers the option to switch between WANs for “always on” network service should their selected primary WAN experience an outage – an especially important feature for fixed business applications. Equipped with an internal 3G/4G mobile broadband modem, the MBR1000 expands coverage by improving throughput beyond what is currently available to routers using USB mobile broadband modems because of its high-performance antenna configuration.

The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network, launched in December 2010, is the fastest, most advanced network in the United States, providing speeds up to 10 times faster than Verizon Wireless’ 3G network. Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network currently reaches one-third of all Americans, with plans to expand the network to Verizon Wireless’ entire 3G coverage area over the next three years.

“Verizon Wireless looks forward to the development of powerful new mobile IP-based services that may be built on the combination of our LTE network and 4G Mobile Broadband Routers such as NETGEAR’s MBR1000,” said Aparna Khurjekar, executive director, Business Solutions, Verizon Wireless. “Creative new IP-based fleet management services are now possible, allowing fleets to easily and securely connect to the mobile broadband network to deliver on-the-go transaction processing and IP video to record pickups, deliveries or accidents.”

The MBR1000 can be deployed on rail, bus or select coastal marine vessels as well as in mining, construction, logging, parks and rural areas, greatly expanding broadband Internet access. With this expanded coverage, consumers on the go now have easy access to IP-based entertainment and valuable productivity tools.

The LTE MBR1000 is part of Verizon Wireless’ LTE Open Development program – designed to allow and encourage the development community to create new products, applications and services beyond what Verizon Wireless offers in its portfolio and bring these to the marketplace on the Verizon Wireless network.

“We commend Verizon Wireless’ 4G technology leadership and the mammoth logistical effort that the company made in order to launch its LTE network with such extensive U.S. coverage,” said Michael Clegg, vice president and general manager, Service Provider Business Unit, NETGEAR. “With the combination of NETGEAR’s innovative mobile broadband technology and Verizon Wireless’ cutting-edge network, we are confident we will deliver the most flexible and high-performance solution to the market.”

The NETGEAR LTE MBR1000 will be highlighted from Jan. 6-9 in Verizon Wireless’ booth (#35216 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center)
