HMG7000 Headless Media Gateway revolutionizes the migration from legacy to an all IP video delivery with best-in-class support for multi-screen initiatives for service providers worldwide.

AMSTERDAM – September 12, 2013 - NETGEAR®, Inc. (NASDAQGM: NTGR), a global networking company that delivers innovative products to consumers, businesses and service providers, announced today the launch of its Media Gateway (HMG7000), the first gateway to use NETGEAR’s NeoMedia™ platform. At launch, the HMG7000 will also be integrated with the Nucleus® gateway software from SeaChange International (Nasdaq: SEAC), a leading global multi-screen video software innovator. The HMG7000 will be demonstrated live at NETGEAR’s stand, 14.110, and SeaChange’s stand, 14.B20, at the RAI Amsterdam during IBC2013 tradeshow.

"The ability to seamlessly integrate video capabilities into existing end-user networks and service provider infrastructure will be considerably more important as the demands for access to all video and television content—regardless of where the content originates—continues to increase,” said Jeff Heynen, principal analyst covering broadband access, pay TV and video for Infonetics Research. “Service Providers will need to differentiate themselves in this highly competitive marketplace."

With an innovative distributed architecture, the HMG7000 headless gateway blends NETGEAR’s market-leading technology across home wireless networking with 802.11ac, video over wireless, easy-to-use customer support tools, high speed 24x8 DOCSIS® 3.0 and third-party application integration.

The NETGEAR HMG7000 headless gateway is WAN access-independent and supports media access from both in-home and cloud-based content sources. It incorporates three key capabilities: 1) local content caching to support DVR functions and trick play, 2) video transcoding to multi-screen format, and 3) advanced transcryption for comprehensive conditional access and digital rights management. The HMG7000 also supports DLNA® streaming for live and recorded program playback from connected DLNA compliant consumer electronic devices.

Built on NETGEAR NeoMedia, the HMG7000 leverages proven cloud technologies such as SeaChange Nucleus, enabling operators to rapidly launch new services or seamlessly upgrade their existing offers. By locating key aspects of a media gateway such as access rights management, user interface and navigation on a cloud server, the NeoMedia™ platform enables CPE devices to become light-weight without sacrificing functionality.

"The HMG7000 with NeoMedia and the SeaChange Nucleus software represents the next generation of gateways for operators that want to address their end-users’ desire for a one box solution that supports all forms of video including live, OTT, recorded and end-user content,” said Michael Clegg, senior vice president and general manager, Service Provider Business with NETGEAR. “We are very excited to launch the headless Media Gateway at IBC2013; it’s the culmination of all of the things NETGEAR does well with the integration of best-of-breed technology."

SeaChange Nucleus video gateway software runs on multiple SoC (system on a chip) and empowers video service providers to dramatically enhance the in-home subscriber experience with a headless or headed video gateway running on their choice of customer premises equipment. Nucleus delivers seamless interoperability and connectivity to in-home IP-connected set-top boxes, tablets, smartphones and PCs with a provider’s branded television services and applications including whole-home DVR, OTT content and more launched from the cloud.

"SeaChange Nucleus software, with its whole-home DVR and industry-standard DLNA protocols, delivers HTML-5 applications from the cloud to connected devices in the home with seamless interoperability and ease of use,” said Shiva Patibanda, general manager, In Home Business, SeaChange. “SeaChange leverages the power of the industry standard Reference Design Kit to run on multiple SoC and provide speed to market for customer premises equipment such as NETGEAR’s HMG7000.
