World’s Leading NAS Vendor introduces ReadyDATA 516; industry’s most feature-rich unified desktop storage, making block-level replication, unlimited snapshots and de-duplication available to businesses of any size.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — May 7, 2013 – NETGEAR®, Inc. (NASDAQGM: NTGR), a global networking company that delivers innovative products to consumers, businesses and service providers, today announced a powerful new addition to the ReadyDATA™ family. As the first ReadyDATA device in desktop form, ReadyDATA 516  is packed with enterprise-class technology and delivered with ease-of-use features that enable small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to effectively use them. Looking to solidify the recent designation from Gartner as the worldwide #1 NAS vendor for total unit shipments in 2012, the introduction of ReadyDATA 516 (RDD516) enables comprehensive edge-to-core data protection when used in tandem with a ReadyDATA 5200 (2U rackmount) or additional ReadyDATA 516s. ReadyDATA 516 is significantly less expensive and dramatically easier to use than comparable enterprise-class offerings, and also incorporates ReadyDATA Hybrid Cloud, a new feature providing data replication from ReadyDATA to the public cloud.

Gartner Inc., the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, published their Market Share: Network-Attached Storage/Unified Storage Worldwide 2012 report (G00249602) on April 12, 2013. The results place NETGEAR among the largest traditional enterprise storage vendors. Gartner ranked NETGEAR the number one vendor for total NAS/unified storage unit shipments in 2012.

ReadyDATA Family

With the addition of the 516 desktop model, NETGEAR now has two innovative products in the ReadyDATA family:

  • ReadyDATA 5200, a 2U 12-bay network-attached storage device that introduced enterprise-class functionality to the SMB with an all-inclusive set of features and unmatched ease-of use; and
  • ReadyDATA 516, a 6-bay desktop network-attached storage device for a business without a data center or with branch offices requiring a powerful on-site storage solution. It delivers to your desktop the features traditionally found only in the data center, and at a price that is cost-effective for even the smallest sites.

NETGEAR is simplifying storage for business customers with one low, all-inclusive and easy-to-understand price for their fully featured network attached storage — including native de-duplication, thin provisioning, unlimited snapshots, support for virtual networks, and NETGEAR’s five-year industry-best warranty. In addition, ReadyDATA enables users to easily mix SSD and SATA drives within a volume to optimize overall performance. With ReadyDATA 516, there are no additional feature licensing fees or maintenance contracts required.

“We designed the new ReadyDATA 516 as ‘data center storage in a box’,” said Matt Pahnke, senior product marketing manager for NETGEAR Storage. “NETGEAR’s market-leading storage business is expanding to include solutions with enterprise-class functionality and ReadyDATA 516 is helping to lead the charge. No one else packs so many advanced data management features into such a small form factor, for one simple, upfront cost.”

The ReadyDATA platform enables users to take advantage of thin provisioning in virtual environments, replicate files and databases to offsite locations, and recover data from unlimited point-in-time snapshots, all with just a few mouse clicks. ReadyDATA ensures the highest levels of data integrity and features ReadyDATA Hybrid Cloud for easy replication directly to the cloud, for high-performance disaster recovery without extra software, servers, or network configuration.

Enterprise-class features that come standard with every ReadyDATA 516 desktop device include:

  • Thin provisioning, compression and de-duplication of block (SAN) and file (NAS) data
  • Unlimited snapshots of block and file data for continuous data protection
  • Ability to mix SSD and SATA drives within a volume to optimize overall performance
  • Replication over 128-bit SSL connections for block and file data
  • Instant capacity expansion eliminating RAID configuration time
  • Virtual network interface support for powerful network traffic management
  • Backup software compatibility with major vendors like Symantec, Acronis, CommVault, StorageCraft, Veeam and Quest
  • Virtualization vendor certifications from VMware, Microsoft and Citrix

Pahnke added, “We want our customers to enjoy a unified storage solution that is cost-efficient, easy to use, and provides enterprise-class data management, without having to pay the typical Big IT premium. ReadyDATA 516 fits this mold and is the most capable feature-rich desktop storage on the market.”

With ReadyDATA, small businesses can improve IT efficiency and reduce the risk of data loss as result of a disaster, human error, or interruption. Edge-to-core data protection enables a business to manage storage centrally and replicate data from a remote or branch office to corporate headquarters or a central site.

“ReadyDATA gives us peace of mind knowing that we can securely share, store, and protect critical data across the network,” said Michael Feldbauer, director at Arafura Connect, an ISP based in Australia. “With ReadyData, we’re getting an enterprise solution loaded with thin provisioning and block-level replication at a price point that helps our bottom line. It’s easy to configure, so much so that within two hours of installation, we were already migrating data.”
